Christmas in July came to smartphone fans. HTC and Apple introduced two new 3G HSDPA smartphones to the world. The HTC Touch Diamond has a Microsoft Windows 6.1 OS with 4 GB internal memory and 192 MB DDR SDRAM and the ability to store files on any PC. It has a TouchFlo 3D accelerometer technology for adjusting web page views, fit to page and zoom. View HTML web pages, access Microsoft applications and other 3rd party applications. Like the new iPhone 3G it has 802.11a/b/g WiFi for utilizing HotSpots. Apple leveled the playing field with the new iPhone by adding Bluetooth 2.0 just like the Diamond. The HTC Diamond camcorder/camera is 3.2 MP compared to the 2.0 MP Apple iPhone. Both smartphones have a brilliant touchscreen display, but Apple's is a bit larger. Both have GPS and easy find features for restaurants, banks and ATMs. Both have good call quality and music players. Apple included the latest version of its operating system with the Safari browser. The biggest deal breaker for HTC is that Apple dropped the new iPhone 3G to $199 w/AT&T contract for the 8GB smartphone and $299 for a 16GB version and added some pretty cool 3rd party apps. Before the price drop and easing up of Apple's stingy protectionism, the HTC Diamond had my vote. Now, I am a new and improved iPhone 3G owner and proud to be in the Apple club.
