On the eve of Computex Taipei 2008, Asustek has shown some of the cards in their hands. Remaining true to its theme of less is more, the Asus Eee Box B202 will make its debut.

All the speculation about the exquisitely small desktop has been confirmed. It is literally smaller than a paperback book. There are three models. The Linux Edition will have a 512MB RAM and an 80GB hard drive and will cost $269 USD.

The US version may be released in a 1GB RAM, however according to the press release. Also, a Linux 2GB RAM with a 160 GB hard drive will cost $299. The XP Edition with 80GB RAM and an 80GB hard drive will cost $299. The expected entrance date in the US in July.

An August surprise is the special release of a Linux French language edition for French speaking users in the Quebec/Montreal region--Ou La La.

The petite Asus Eee Box desktop has an interesting array of user-friendly features. First off, it comes with the new Intel Atom processor. with 1.6 GHz processor speed. It appears the initial colors will be be designer black and white.

As for connectivity, the Asus Eee Box is equipped with two front USB ports and two rear 2.0 USB ports. It features a front headphone-out jack and microphone jack in the front of the Box B202.

There is a card reader for easy access to multiple formats. In the rear there is a Gigabit LAN port and a DVI out port. A line-out left and right with SP/PDIF port. A WiFi antenna is built-in.

Included in the purchase price is a durable and attractive chrome stand. The stand accentuates the crisp and clean lines of the Asus Eee Box B202 design. It is just enough to not overwhelm the 8.5-inch x 7-inch x 1-inch petite unit.

A compatible 65 watt power adapter is included. The keyboard, mouse and other accessories are optional. The noticeable omission of an optical drive can be overcome by utilizing one of the USB ports to connect an external DVD drive.

In other news, Asus will introduce a designer original LCD TV inspired by Franz a well known ceramic artist. Taipei will be the launching ground for the new Asus P320 heralded as the smallest Windows Mobile GPS PDA with advanced real-time 3D imaging. Also, a new smartphone dubbed the M930 will hit the runway with a widescreen display and a full QWERTY keyboard.

As I casually observed in previous articles about Asustek and MSI delving into the petite genre with style and beauty. It appears Computex Taipei 2008 beginning June 3rd will launch the year of Vive La Difference.
