HTC introduced its latest innovation in mobile communications at a bash in London on May 6th. The event may have been over blown. However, the celebrity of the event, the brilliant-cut HTC Touch Diamond was a smash.

It may be glistening and shining on UK shelves within a matter of weeks. The North American version will be released sometime in 2008. As advertised it is elegance and innovation. It is the culmination of the line of HTC Touch phones.

The Diamond Touch runs on a Qualcomm MSM 7201A 528MHz processor. The operating system is Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional. The Diamond Touch has 4 GB internal memory with 256 MB ROM memory and 192 MB DDR SDRAM capacity. There lacks a memory slot, but a mini USB port is included.

Bluetooth is another feature of the Diamond Touch. It is a tri-band GSM system. According to HTC, there will be a tri-band versions for Europe and Asia. At a future date, a separate tri-band version will be sold in North America.

The brilliant display is a 2.8-inch TFT LCD touch sensitive screen with VGA quality resolution. The menu display is abundantly clear and provides instant touch access to music, weather and the personal address book. It utilizes HTC TouchFLO2 3D device control with touch sensitive navigation control. It has a built-in accelerometer which allows screen auto rotation. The navigation with the accelerometer makes the Touch Diamond a star.

Touch Diamond adds a GPS receiver which distinguishes it from previous models. The Diamond features a 3.2 megapixel camera and a VGA CMOS camera WiFi, music player and access to abundant Web based applications. An FM, built-in microphone and speaker system accentuates the fact that Diamond Touch is not just another pretty face.

The battery life is 270- minutes for WCDMA and up to 330- minutes for GSM. The standby time is 396- hours for WCDMA and 285-hours for GSM. The video call time for WCDMA is about 145-minutes. The 900 mAh capacity rechargeable lithium battery may be taxed a bit when using the GPS feature. Otherwise, the battery life for most users will meet or exceed their needs.

In summary, the Diamond Touch is a beauty. The slim Diamond measuring a little over 4-inches in length and 2-inches wide with a .45-inch depth. and weighing only 3.86-ounces is an elegant package. I can hardly wait until it makes it way across the Pond.
