Every so often a new device comes on the market that makes life a little easier. The Grill Alert is one of those handy devices. Imagine a Sunday barbecue with a group of friends you haven't seen in awhile. Everyone is trying to catch up on what's happening. You are busy barbecuing and stuck out of range of the life of the party. No more, thanks to the clip on Grill Alert. Its easy to set up by setting the desired temperature of the meat, poultry or lamb on the Grill Alert device and inserting the stainless steel probes and the wireless Grill Alert does the rest. It can audibly tell you or sets off an alarm. It is priced at $75.

How It Works:

The Grill Alert comes with a wireless transmitter, steel probes and an LCD device that can be clipped to your pants. There is an instruction book that explains the device to a tee, but the set up is basically intuitive. The LCD device is waterproof and has a convenient backlight for night time grilling. It needs two AA batteries and two AAA batteries, not included.

The wireless transmitter has a range of 300 feet and operates at 433 MHz. The LCD device has a range of food items listed. All you have to do is select the type of meat and the desired temperature, insert the stainless steel probes and enjoy the party. The convenient belt clip allows you hands-free mobility and when the food is ready, Grill Alert will tell you or send you an alarm. The warning commands are an additional good feature. Grill Alert will tell you, “almost ready or ready.” There is a bar graph on the LCD device that shows you the cooking progress.

The Grill Alert is a sturdy device and has been awarded five stars by Good Housekeeping for excellence. The display is easy to read and the operation is almost fool proof. Clean up is a breeze and it is ready to go for your next barbecue.

There is little to complain about because it really works well. The only obvious gripe might be the AA and AAA batteries, but buying in bulk cuts the cost of batteries.
