Apple continues to roll out new eye-catching products. In my opinion the iPod Classic with 160 GB is the pinnacle of their technology. For some, maybe the idea of using their index finger to flip through the touch screen is a big deal. For my personal preference, all I want is a device with big capacity, solid performance and long battery life. That sums up the Apple iPod Classic 160 GB. I received it as a gift, but I read it costs around $330.

Big Features:

The 160GB capacity is unformatted. If you take into account formatting the iPod Classic will come in somewhat less than the 160GB. There is a companion iPod Classic 80GB priced about $100 less. In my opinion, the better deal is the iPod Classic 160GB. it is good to keep in mind, absent is an expandable memory slot.

The formats available are abundant for both PC and Mac platforms. In addition, this model comes with a digital audio format upgrade. In short, the iPod Classic can download movies, short videos and thousands of songs. The specifics are; 40,000 songs or 7 hours of video. The music management system is iTunes.

Downloading music or video content from iTunes is simple and with the USB 2.0 and the right computer it goes fast. I noted the desktop computer has slower download speed than my newer laptop. This is probably because my laptop has a faster processor.

There is a quick start guide included with the purchase of the iPod Classic 160GB, and I would suggest reading it. There are additional trouble shooting tips at the Apple web site. One time my model froze up and it gave instructions which were simple to remedy the problem. Parenthetically, I did not lose any content on my iPod.

The Apple iPod is a solid performer, but get a dust resistant cover for it. Neither water or dust is compatible with this device. I found a water-resistant, dust proof jacket for mine on a Weather Station commercial during Epic Conditions.

In terms of battery life, there is nothing on the market that can compete with the Apple iPod. I would say it is true there is about 40 hours of battery life for music. I simply put it on the dock and recharge it each night anyway after extended use. It is nice to know there is a good battery life if I need it.

In conclusion, I recommend the Apple iPod Classic 160GB. I have no complaints, but a memory slot would be nice. Realistically, the chances of that happening is nil. That would be a little too egalitarian for Apple.
