I know, it is a very old phone, you cann't buy it now, but I believe there are some fans of it yet!
Well, I've been a fan of Motorola for a long time. Actually, this one is my third Motorola. When it comes to the point of getting a new phone, there were no other options for me. Simplicity, light-weigth, compactness and reliability - everything I ever loved in Motorolas.
To start with - form-factor. Very nice looking and compact clamshell - 86x44x24 mm ad only 102 g- you can hide it even in the inner pocket of the suit jacket. And forget about buttons being pressed and your mom called when you have no idea about it.
What should a phone do in the first place? Right, to ring and to let you call your friends! Actually, I have never seen a phone, which worked better. The network signal is very, not VERY strong, it works even in places where Samsung fails to catch anything. Just add the fact that it is 3-band GSM - and you have no troubles in travelling around the world. The ring is quite loud, although it might be even louder a bit. Vibro-mode is also present.
Messaging is ok for this old phone - SMS (ABC and T9 modes), MMS.
Another thing, I love about this phone, is external LCD display. You know, it is really very handy. Before that I had Motorola v90. Everytime I had to open it just to decide if I want to answer this call.
Internal LCD display is even better - 128x128 pixels VGA (64k colours). Just enought space to navigate through easy-to-understand-and-access menu. Or to place a photo of your daughter, or girl/boy-friend, or even your mother-in-law or a pet. Actually, I love built-in desktop themes and wallpapers, yet I put my kid there. Personalization is cool in this phone. Personal ringtones, pictures and avatars for groups of contacts or for each individual contact.
Talking about photos - vell VGA camera at 640x480 pixels with 4x digital zoom could be better. But what do you expect from this tiny camera? Anyway, pictures are ok at sunny days outside.
There are other cool things and stuff, like Java games (two are pre-installed, others are downloadable), calendar, calculator, MotoMixer, web-browsing, etc. But I, personally, never use them.
Do I like it - undoubtly! I would still use it if I hadn't bought Palm Treo 680. Anyway, if you need just a reliable and nice cell phone, not some kind of "everything in here, but how to work with it" super-gadget - this is the right choice. It works, and works, and works...
